Symptoms of Cataracts

Cataracts often develop slowly, so symptoms might not be immediately obvious until vision is significantly impaired. Typically, cataracts will be prevalent in both eyes, but the symptoms may differ in each eye. Cataracts are also painless, which may also result in an initial dismissal of its severity.

Visit your optician if you're experiencing any of the following cataract symptoms:

  • Clouded or blurred vision
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Colours appear faded or yellowed, especially shades of blue
  • Double vision (seeing two images from one eye)
  • Increased sensitivity to light and glare
  • Seeing glowing rings (halos) around lights
  • Needing to change glasses or contact lens prescriptions often as vision changes
  • Brighter light needed for reading and other activities
