Our OcMMP Funded Research
Ocular Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid (OcMMP) is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation and progressive scarring of the conjunctiva - the clear membrane that covers the white of the eye and the inside of the eyelids.
The inflammation of the conjunctiva itself can be very painful and irritating. Unlike conjunctivitis, OcMMP does not respond to antibiotics or eye drops and remains one of the most difficult eye conditions to manage. Currently available treatments are limited in their ability to prevent the damaging scarring caused by this disease, and often have serious side effects.
We're investing in research that has the potential to transform the care of people living with the impact of this condition.
