Top Tips for Successful Fundraising
Easy-to-follow tips that turn great ideas into real results.

We are thrilled to have you on #TeamSightResearchUK, and we just want to say Thank You.
Here are some of our top tips to help you reach your fundraising goal. Whatever amount you raise, remember that the most important thing is to enjoy the experience and make it memorable. Your efforts will make a real difference, so have fun, get creative, and create moments you’ll cherish!
1) Make it Personal
Make your fundraising page personal by adding a photo and explaining why sight research matters to you. Sharing your motivation and connection to the cause often helps connect others and can raise significantly more.
2) Spread the word on social media
Use your favourite platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn or X), to share your fundraising journey. The more people who see it, the more support you’ll gather. Don’t forget to tag @SightResearchUK and use #TeamSightResearchUK so we can cheer you on!
3) Involve your workplace or school
Add your fundraising link to your email signature, share it on your intranet, or ask to include it in a newsletter. Getting your colleagues or classmates involved can give your total a big boost.
4) Reach out to local media
Your local newspaper or radio station might love to feature your story. It’s a great way to raise awareness and support. We’ve got a press release template to help you get started.
5) Ask about matched giving
Many employers offer matched funding, doubling your donations! Ask your employer if they’ll match your fundraising or help promote your efforts internally.
6) Celebrate your milestones
Hit a fundraising goal? Hit that personal best target? Let people know! You could even set mini-challenges for each milestone, like wearing fancy dress for a day or baking a cake live on social media.
7) Raise awareness as you fundraise
Help others understand why sight research is so vital. Share fact, videos and stories from your own experience or from SRUK to highlight the impact of your efforts.
8) Get kitted out
Wearing SRUK-branded gear helps spread the word and shows your commitment. Whether it’s a t-shirt, badge or banner, it’s a great conversation starter.
9) Rally your network
Fundraising is more fun with friends! Ask your family, friends, and colleagues to share your page and help spread the word. The more people involved, the bigger the impact.
10) Capture the moment
Take photos and videos throughout your fundraising journey. They’re perfect for social media, press coverage, and celebrating your achievements! While, also inspiring others.
