It’s time to Step UP for Sight! In 2026, Sight Research UK celebrates 40 years of funding pioneering vision research. To mark this milestone, we’re kickstarting a 40:40:40 challenge throughout this summer that you can get stuck into to raise funds for our cause.
What is a 40:40:40 challenge?
It means you get 40 days to raise £40 as you complete a challenge of your choice (below!). And if you are one of the first 40 people to do so, you will win a FREE Sight Research UK T-shirt! Result.

400,000 steps challenge
Walk, jog, or run 400,000 steps over 40 days.
- Set up your Step UP for Sight fundraising page.
- Share your fundraising challenge with friends and family.
- Start your 400,000 steps challenge (walk, jog or run – the choice is yours!).
- Complete over 40 days (which is 10,000 steps a day).
- Hit your £40 donation target with help from your support network.
- If you’re one of the first 40 people to complete the challenge, you win a FREE Sight Research UK T-shirt!
Activity challenge
Do your favourite activity over 40 days.
- Set up your Step UP for Sight fundraising page.
- Share your fundraising challenge with friends and family.
- Start your activity challenge (cycle, swim, knit, paint, juggle – anything you like!).
- Complete over 40 days.
- Hit your £40 donation target with help from your support network.
- If you’re one of the first 40 people to complete the challenge, you win a FREE Sight Research UK T-shirt!
Why you should Step UP for Sight:
Every 6 minutes, someone in the UK begins to lose their sight. At Sight Research UK, we believe this doesn’t have to be the future. Step UP for Sight is about bringing people together to move more, look after their eye health, and help fund vital research that could prevent sight loss for generations to come.
Physical activity and time outdoors both play an important role in overall wellbeing, including eye health. With screen time at an all‑time high and conditions such as myopia on the rise, these challenges encourage people of all ages to look up, get active, and make a positive difference.
When can I do the challenge?
We’re running Step UP for Sight throughout this spring and summer, from May to July 2026.
